Saving Elliot's Sight

Donation protected
Elliot is a little one year old who came into our care almost two months ago with an eye ulcer which hadn't been treated, was extremely deep and quite painful.

The vet has recommended doing everything to save this eye (instead of removing it) as he previously had the cat herpes virus flu which may appear later in life and cause his other eye to deteriorate.

At this recommendation we tried blood plasma serum therapy of the eye for six weeks, and then antibiotics.

During this treatment he had to see the vet every 3 days for the first few weeks, then weekly, having to have blood drawn for the plasma weekly, and eye drops (serum and drops) six times a day! This has been a tremendous effort from his poor foster mum.

His eye had got to a stage where it was stable and he still had sight, without pain or inflammation, however it was not recovering so we had to stop the plasma treatment and prepare for a very expensive surgery. This is after already spending over $1,000 on trying to save the eye!

Unfortunately, yesterday (Sunday 6 August) Elliot's eye started to collapse and break down, so we had to rush him to the emergency vet hospital. As the eye was losing pressure, he had to undergo emergency eye surgery where he had the dead eye tissue removed and an eye flap grafted onto the eye.
The success rate of this is around 80% and costs around the same as removing the eye. He has just checked out of the vet hospital and has started his long road to recovery (3-4 months).

Sadly we will have to use the funds we were saving for the upcoming kitten season (starting next month) unless we can raise this money. We don't have the funds to cover this and the upcoming kitten season.

Gungahlin Emergency Vet Hospital has kindly done this complicated surgery at a hugely discounted rate for us, and aftercare will be at our regular vet practice.

He's such a gorgeous little man, he truly deserves the care we're giving him. Please donate any amount to help cover this vet bill. Every dollar will help immensely!

All money will go to covering the surgery vet bill and the after care vet visits.
We need to raise $1,575 by Monday 21 August 2017.
