Peace in the middle East will be achieved one child at a time. It will not be the politicians- too concerned with their own future- who will build a peaceful coexistence between nations; it will be the doctors. saving the lives and giving a future to the sons and daughters of their sworn enemies. Syrian children who are receiving life- saving medical assistance from Doctors at Israel’s northernmost hospital are entering into a relationship that would have been inconceivable under any other conditions.
Enough for one of those children whose leg or arm has been saved from amputation, or have received stabilizing and continuous treatment for chronic diabetes, to become the leader of the next generation in Syria for animosity toward Israel to tame down if not disappear altogether.
Every day at Ziv Medical Center in Sefad doctors are performing incredible and against all odds medical treatments that spell hope and future for young Syrian children and for the future of the Middle East. Their continuous work depends on having the resources and feeling the support of the international community, people of good will partnering in the effort not only to bring humanitarian help to those in need but to be part of a major drive to bring old antagonists closer to each other.

Ziv Medical Center in Sefad, Israel, which has treated hundreds of civilian casualties of the Syrian civil war, including women and children is now working to raise funds for their treatment and return to Syria.
The casualties all reach the border, by any means at their disposal. Among the injured are children and young adults who arrive on their own, unaccompanied by a family member, perhaps they have lost their families during the course of the war. Most of them have sustained severe, complex war injuries, from bullets, shrapnel and blast damage, suffering from internal injuries and amputated limbs.
In contrast to routine treatment of patients hospitalized in Ziv, these casualties are treated over a long period of weeks and even months, without the comfort of a family member by their side, arriving without even the most rudimentary items required by a patient.
In addition to the life-saving treatment given to the patients, Ziv also provides the support of its social services as well as physiotherapist, to assist the casualties in dealing with the traumatic experiences they have experienced.
Ziv is currently working to purchase much needed medical items for the Syrian children and women. Their time in Israel is limited, and they return from Ziv to unknown circumstances in Syria. After their return, they may no longer be able to access medical services, hospitals or rehabilitation facilities which will insure their recovery.
