My name is Tanner Frey.
I am 26 years old, and I suffer from Post-Infectious IBS, which causes me egregious amounts of pain continuously. June 28th will mark the 6-year anniversary of when my health began to decline.
Every single day I wake up and am so blindingly overwhelmed by severe abdominal pains that I have to be assisted by members of my family into the one bathroom in our home, where I spend an average of three hours in the bathtub wailing and moaning like a man being tortured. I live in agony as this sickness ruins me from the inside. This is an emergency situation that has lasted for these four years, and I’m frightened that I’ll live like this for the rest of my life.
Before I got sick, I was a healthy gold medalist trumpet player and soloist with the Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps. I am a high achiever, and an Eagle Scout. I would like to get to the point where I can leave my house and go back to college and pursue my original goals of getting my music degree and becoming a high school or college band teacher.
I have been excruciatingly sick and am not physically able to work or finish college. I am in the process of trying to receive disability benefits, though without any previous work history, applying for disability or unemployment benefits is nearly impossible. I am living with my parents who are fully supporting me and having a strenuous time doing so. My mom cannot work full time because she has to stay home to care for me, and the rest of my family has to bear my burden just as much. With my dad working hard just to make rent and earn the home’s general income, we just can’t afford the cost of proper medical attention.
I have been in the emergency room over 50 times, admitted to the hospital numerous times, had my gall bladder removed, have had too many CT scans, ultrasounds, gastric tests... I have contracted C-dificile, have developed Candida, cannot eat most foods, am gluten free and vegan, dairy free and have over 18,000 pages of medical records.
With all of that said, I humbly request for any bit of charity that generous hearts wish to donate. I want to be healthy again, and every cent of this fund will help me rebuild my quality of life. Thank you for reading, and perhaps later sharing my story.
