Save Tango

Tango entered our lives January of 2008. In just 9 years he has impacted everyone’s life, even strangers stopped to greet him and talk about his amazing temperament. Several times as we drove to his favorite place, upstate, people pulled close enough to us an opened their window to say “he is amazing” as he continued to lounge on the dashboard. There is no other dog like him. He has loved and protected everyone in his presence, allowed all children especially my nephews, niece, and his human brother to pull his ears, tail and collar, slap him over and over again and still would rather stay by their side just because it made them happy. Other dogs would have bit them or ran away but not Tango, he was committed to pleasing others. Tango came with me everywhere from food shopping to work. Every day he came to the office and protected and loved every person who was behind the door. The poor delivery men were scared of this sweet, caring, loving dog because he did not like a stranger walking into “his” office. All tango was doing was protecting each and every one of us. Out of all the deliveries we received whether it was food or supplies Tango hated all except Tommy the UPS driver. If Tango saw the UPS truck outside he whimpered impatiently until Tommy walked through the door. Tommy loved him as well even though Tango would not let him leave without untying his laces or grabbing onto his pants. He is truly an exceptional dog that has touched the hearts of hundreds of people. Tango traveled with us everywhere we could take him. As Phil would say “our wedding was planned around Tango” and that was true. I was not taking a no as an answer from anyone, so I searched place after place until I found the perfect place for our wedding and Tango. Tango also is and was loved by many dogs and Tango never would have harmed any dog. Oreo and Max he loved dearly, always was excited to see them even though they both growled at him all the time, Max never let Tango drink water even if he was Tango’s water bowl, Oreo never let Tango walk near her while she was laying down. None of this bothered Tango, he excepted them for who they were, adapted to their wishes and still loved them, which is why they ended up loving him right back. In only 10 months he got baby Kosta to love him just as much as anyone else does. Kosta kisses Tango all day and looks for him if he isn’t in arms reach. When Kosta does not want to stay in his play yard and begins to cry we put Tango in there with him which immediately makes Kosta smile. From the day the baby came home Tango has protected him and still does. It is a bond that I am not ready to break. Again there is no other Tango in this world. Tango is our world without him I don’t know what our lives would be like. He makes us smile when we are sad, comforts us, loves us, and lives for us.
July 16, 2017 was the worst Sunday ever; Tango was diagnosed with spinal cancer that has already begun corroding his spine causing him to be partially paralyzed in his hind legs. He was admitted today at an oncologist veterinarian facility located in Midtown Manhattan to begin radiation treatment. They believe he can obtain full mobility in his hind legs with just 20 days of radiation treatment along with some other minor treatment. This can help him live at least another 2 years and hopefully longer. At the moment they are working with neurologist to obtain a biopsy so they can determine what type of cancer. Unfortunately the tumor can’t be removed because it is holding his spine from cracking into two pieces. In order to help save his life we need any help that we can get.
Love,
Phil, Patty, Kosta and Tango
