Heart Surgery for 4 Year Old Rajabu
This campaign is to help us get our much loved four year old boy in Uganda to India for a complex surgery to save his life.
Rajabu is the fourth child of his mother, Topista. Topista lost Rajabu's dad while she was pregnant with Rajabu. Rajabu’s father was killed in a motorcycle accident while working as a motorcycle taxi driver in Uganda. Topista was one of four wives, her husband was poor, but working. When he died he left Topista with nothing, but a mud brick incomplete house with only a roof, no doors, no windows, no floors. It sits in a drainage area and frequently floods with sewage filled runoff.
My wife and I, working with donors and friends in the organization we founded, HOPE+ Africa, have been helping Topista for the last two years. We have helped Topista, who has no formal education, learn to sew so she can try to care for her family. We set her up with a sewing machine and tailoring business. We also pay to put Rajabu's three older siblings in school while providing food assistance and friendship to Topista. Topista is a wonderful mom, loving and kind. She studies and learns quickly, she is an asset to our house church discussions and community. She and her kids are very much a big part of our Ugandan family.
We need $8,000 by to get Rajabu to India before July 4 for a free surgery that will hopefully correct his pulmonary stenosis and save his life. His doctor in Uganda told us his valve defect will kill him sometime around age 5. He is 4 now. He sweats constantly, just started walking last year, gets sick and loses weight, and now weighs a mere 18lbs. His heart can not do the job of keeping him alive and allow him to grow, it is wearing out fast.

The $8,000 will be used to transport Rajabu, his mother, Topista, a translator, and possibly another team member from the HOPE+ Africa's staff to Bangalore, India from Entebbe, Uganda. One staff member may travel from Los Angeles. Additional funds raised over travel expenses will be used to care for Rajabu and his family durring his recovery.
