Adoptable dog Jefferson needs heart surgery and he needs your help. He is a very sweet and lovable Pit mix between eight and ten months old. He has a long, happy life ahead of him, but only if he gets this surgery.
Jefferson came to Islip Animal Shelter as a stray dog about a month or so ago. When we went to neuter him, the doctor heard a significant murmur of his heart. His neuter was postponed and he was sent for an echo cardiogram to figure out what was going on. He was found to have a congenital defect of his pulmonary valve. This is something he needs to have surgery for, in order to repair it. Once repaired, he'll be able to live a normal life and should not need any medications or further treatment. Without the surgery, he can go into heart failure or even pass away suddenly. It's truly a matter of life or death. Help keep this pup alive and donate today!
While we collect funds for him, we're also still showing him for adoption. If you're interested in giving this guy a home once his surgery is complete, please come meet him as soon as possible! He'd love to meet you!
