Story:
Everyone is wondering what happened during the night that Tyrus was taken to the pound.
On December 12, Tyrus bit his two legged brother (an 8 year old boy). That afternoon the boy and his mother was trying to get him into a kennel. Tyrus was was provoked while eating (kicked, ran at several times, food taken away to get him to move onto the kennel, and pushed from behind while eating) and that is when Tyrus bit him. There is security camera footage and in the hands of the owner on the incident.
The little boy was taken to the emergency room where I met my family there and he was stitched up and sent home. The little boy had 6-7 total stitches. The little boy is doing well and stitches have fallen out.
The aftermath:
Tyrus was picked up that evening and taken to quarantine. While in the care of the city, he became extremely malnourished and currently serving day 43 in the pound. He was taken to the local vet and results came back as “unhealthy but alive”
My brother visited the dog and his heart broke to see his dog in this condition. The “local animal control authority” (who is not licensed) deemed the dog vicious and ordered to be put down. During his court hearing at the Municipal Court, my brother frequently asked the question, “While this dog has been in your custody has he shown any kind of aggression to you?” According to the city attorney the question was not relevant. The individual who transported the dog to the vet did so, unleashed, uncaged, and not muzzled. The dog was handled by the city worker by the collar, but yet he is vicious.
No, he Is NOT a vicious dog he has never bitten anyone before, and this has never happened before. Neighbors, family members and friends can testify that Tyrus is very friendly. Kids tend to do things we don’t understand. It was an accident.
The owner was expecting to take his dog home after the 10 day quartine until his court date but they wound not let him. He was told he had to wait until his court date. He was not notified until the court date that his dog was deemed vicious. Meetings were going on and people in and out to get this paper signed! 40 days to “decide” and sign this paper and then handed to him while waiting to see the judge.
The owner was told the dogs were only given 1 scoop of dog food a day on any size of dog, even though the law states that the amount of food a dog gets is based on size, not a city rule, ordinance, or personal opinion!
Owner has stated that animal cruelty charges have been filed.
We are asking for prayers and support to hire legal counsel as we head into this with everything we have to save Tyrus!
We have to understand that dogs are still animals, they will react like animals all the rest of their lives, but they are also FAMILY to a lot of people, you wouldn’t understand if you’ve never properly had the joy of having one.
Once again we ask for prayers for Tyrus!
Tyrus and Matthew need your support we just want him home. Time is against us we have 10 days to appeal the Municipal Court ruling!
Share his story. We are his voice and will not give up on him! #savetyrus
*all contributions remaining after legal fees and court costs will be donated to Passion for Paws.
