Help Those Suffering in Silence

Donation protected
Save a life CYCLE  is a double circumnavigation of Australia on bicycle to raise awareness, help lift the lid on suicide, get depression out in the open, raise much needed funding to help deliver educational resources and spark conversation which will hopefully make a difference.

My name is Matt Bryan and CYCLING  contributed to saving my life.
I've been suffering from depression & anxiety from early childhood. A combination of genetics, events, choices and a growing dependency to alcohol and medication fuelled the fire which led me to some very dark days. Worse, leaving me with little or no empathy for others and how this illness may be affecting them, plus a growing carelessness about my own well being.

I was frighteningly close to ending it all.
It took the kindness of a partner and family, support of a good friend, understanding employees and the encouragement of a man who got me onto a bike plus some personal determination to lift me out of that hole. I also realised I was not alone.

Through CYCLING , I've heard many stories similar to mine and also discovered the incredible generosity and care others are willing to contribute for a worthy cause. So after completing the Noosa Triathalon in 2017, I made a decision to do what ever is within me to  make a positive difference.

My way of attempting to do that is by doing what contributed to saving my life...CYCLING!

Save a life CYCLE  is an attempt to circumnavigate Australia....twice.
Once anticlockwise, taking in every state and territory.
Then clockwise, focussing on reaching rural communities and conquering the highest peaks in the country.
This journey will cover approximately 35,000 km and I plan to complete it in 400 days.

We all agree it's not good enough that 3,000,000 people in Australia struggle with depression and anxiety.
It's not good enough that 62,000 people in this country attempt suicide annually.
It's tragic that well over 3000 of these attempts end with the individual taking their own life.

Depression is the major global cause of disability.
The facts are not pretty...but they are real.

On an intimate level, thousands of mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers, friends, uncles, aunties, grandparents, colleagues and worst of all, children, who have been affected by losing a person close to them, would have done anything to help save that loved one they have lost.

My hope is that you will be kind enough to get behind this challenge to help those who need it most, the ones who are suffering in silence.

We can't do this without you!

So we are asking for your support to help me stand up and shout out against the stigma surrounding mental illness, to let people know someone cares and there is a way forward if they can begin to talk about it and get the right help. Together we can help the people suffering realise they are not alone, there is help available and we do care!

Your donations will go towards funding essential supplies, support vehicle and travel expenses for the www.savealifecycle.com team who will be the backup and support for me on this challenge.

Once the GOFUNDME target is reached, donations will then be forwarded directly to our charity partner Black Dog Institute
Our goal is to raise $350,000 in total which will be extremely beneficial to this amazing organisation.
If together, we can save one life...every pedal stroke I make will be worth it.

Thank You!
