Help Save a Costa Rican School

Ficus Tree School is a small, bilingual school in the peaceful town of Playa Hermosa, Costa Rica. Our school has a responsibility to our students and families to provide integrative development, strong values, and the reinforcement of coexistence to form a meaningful academic and personal life.
This school provides so much more to our community than just being a place of learning. The whole staff works hard to teach critical thinking, a global perspective, and a respect for core values of honesty, loyalty, perseverance, and compassion. Everyone here is committed to going above and beyond to ensure the children are not just gaining academic skills, but are also developing emotional intelligence and life skills. Ficus Tree School also provides opportunities to our students in which they might not otherwise have. It is one of the few schools in the area which is recognised by the North American school system. I’m sure I don’t need to explain why this is a huge advantage for these kids!
Our school was recently acquired by new owners and has, unfortunately, encountered some difficulty in righting the wrongs of the previous administration. The owners, us teachers, and the parents have all been working relentlessly to pave the way for Ficus Tree to reach its full potential, doing everything we can with the time and resources we have to give. We have created after-school enrichment programs for our community, giving the families of Playa Hermosa an opportunity to learn how to organically farm their land, learn a foreign language, or bond with their children through family yoga. These are among a dozen other workshops we are implementing in an effort to maintain our place in the community.
Our jobs, our student’s education, and our community are in jeopardy and everyone involved- from staff to parents- are doing absolutely everything they can to keep hope alive. This GoFundMe is one of our many attempts to try and save something that is so important to so many people.
The funds collected from this fundraiser will go towards the following:
- Scholarships for students in need
- Marketing for student enrollment
- After-school enrichment programs
- Curriculum supplies
- Capital to boost our efforts
We believe in the future of this school, but more importantly, the future of the children who depend on this school. If you cannot contribute in a monetary fashion, perhaps you won’t mind sharing this post in the hopes someone who can will see it.
