Save Zinky
This is really new for me. I am generally someone who doesn’t even like to ask for help, but 2020 has officially broke me down.
Long story short I am desperately asking anyone and everyone to help save my 6mo old border collie. His name is Zink.
When I came home from work today I noticed there was vomit all over my room and he was laying on my bed extremely lethargic.
Let me remind you... this is a border collie puppy. Lethargic is not in their vocabulary.
I started petting him and checking for any signs of what could be wrong. I rubbed his belly and with in seconds he vomited. There was some leafs in his vomit.
I immediately called the pet hospital and they recommended that I bring him in. I quickly got his harness on and then went and scanned the back yard for any of the leaf that he had ingested. Sure enough there was a small branch that had been ripped from the palm bush. I grabbed it and drove the 45 minutes to the pet hospital.
When I got there I let them know about my findings. Immediately the tech asked me if the palm tree was a sago palm. I had no idea what type of plants were in the back yard since I’m renting a room from a friend. I did a quick google search and sure enough that’s what it was.
This type of palm tree is toxic to animals, and it’s seeds are deadly if ingested. I emptied my savings account so that the vet could keep Zink over night and monitor his liver function, as well as run X-rays to see if he ingested a seed.
I left the hospital at 1:30 in the morning with out my pup to head back home and await news. Partially through the drive I got the call explaining that he did in-fact ingest some type of seed, and that it needed to be surgically removed. Then came worse news.
If it is the palm seed, even with removal Zink won’t make it. The toxicity of the seed will have already done its damage. However if they go in and it’s not the palm seed they will be able to remove it and my little pup will be able to recover.
I am out of money and the surgery could potentially save his life.
