Save Tonka

Donation protected

In Dec. of last year, we made the difficult decision to rehome our beloved dog Tonka. We found what we thought was a good home for him. However, his new owner failed to update his chip info and Metro Emergency Animal Services contacted us (because of the chip) to inform us that Tonka had been brought in with a broken leg. We are so grateful that a good samaritan stopped to rescue Tonka, who was lying injured in the middle of a busy road with his collar and leash still on. This gracious man took him in to Metro and took financial responsiblity for his first night there, sedation, x-rays, a splint, and pain medication.

As soon as we learned of this, we took immediate action to get in touch with his current owner, even went to his house to ensure everything was ok with him. He was home and knew that Tonka was missing, but showed no concern or remorse for his whereabouts or condition.  He said he would go get Tonka, but he never did and has since been MIA. He has completely abondoned Tonka and his wellbeing.

Tonka's leg is fractured and requires surgery, which neither we nor the good samaratin can afford. We are also not able to bring him back into our home. It breaks our hearts to know that he was essentially left for dead by his current owner. The man who brought Tonka in is willing to take ownership of him, but can't afford to take him and go through with the surgery.

We want to do everything we can to help Tonka heal and find him a new, good, and permanent home. He is the biggest, most loving sweetheart of a dog who is immediately loved by everyone who meets him. Please help us save Tonka!
