Sponsor Camp for Kids with Learning Disabilities

Camper Sponsors:
Your donation to the Timbertop Camp “Climb Higher” Scholarship Fund makes it possible for campers and their families who need financial assistance to attend Timbertop Camp!  Campers benefit from the many experiences shared with friends while exploring nature, camping, singing campfire songs, and participating in the countless other experiences that make camp so special.

Timbertop Camp has provided a unique summer camp experience for kids with learning disabilities in the Upper Midwest for 53 years, ever since 1967, when founder Rhoda Brooks and her family decided that their nephew, and kids like him, deserved a summer camp experience like everyone else! Timbertop Camp, Inc. is now operated by a Volunteer Board of Directors and registered as a Nonstock Corporation, with 501(c)3 tax-exempt status.

Due to the way our campaign is set up, you will need to request a tax-exempt receipt directly from us, as Go-Fund-Me will not send you one automatically. If you would like to make a larger tax-deductible donation please contact us at [phone redacted], [email redacted] or www.timbertopcamp.org.  We do have 501(c)3 status, but are still working on getting a few things straightened out to set up a new tax-exempt Go-Fund-Me campaign.

Help us give kids with learning disabilities a great, affordable experience at a summer camp designed especially for them!

Running a specialized camp like Timbertop is expensive, and we rely on kind-hearted souls like you to help keep costs down for families who couldn't otherwise afford such a niche experience.

We are raising funds to support our Camper Scholarship Fund (support for campers who can’t afford to pay the full cost of Camp).

More Background on Timbertop Camp:

Timbertop is an overnight camp designed for boys and girls that have been identified by their School District as needing extra help for a special learning need. Specific learning disabilities may include: OHI, ADHD, ADD, LD and SLD. Youth receiving support services such as Leveled Learning Intervention (LLI), Reading Support and Title 1, are also eligible.

Timbertop combines traditional camp activities with extra reading practice and special group activities that focus on dealing with learning differences in a structured daily setting. We are dedicated to providing a safe, fun, and small group environment, which develops the spirit, mind and body of each individual. Camp is a special place where youth and teens learn about the environment, develop positive values, make meaningful friendships, build positive peer relationships, learn new skills and increase self-confidence. In our community of caring adults Timbertop summer camp helps kids grow and find themselves.

Camp Details:

Timbertop is a 7-day outdoor adventure where campers will learn outdoor skills and participate in activities designed to enhance their cooperative abilities and interpersonal relationships. An emphasis is placed on building self-esteem and how to make and keep friends. Whether building a campfire, cleaning the cabin or learning how to handle a canoe, each camper learns to share the responsibility of camp life. The daily schedule includes: reading instruction, swim lessons, cabin activities, camp classes (such as nature exploration, canoeing, arts & crafts, archery, fishing, games and more), evening campfires, stargazing and all-camp programs.

Camp Leadership:

Timbertop Camp, Inc. is operated by a volunteer Board of Directors. Our volunteers are selected for their leadership skills and their ability to provide a meaningful and safe camp experience for youth with Learning Disabilities. Volunteers have an understanding of youth with special needs and the unique potential of each child. There is a ratio of one adult to every six campers.

Rhoda Brooks “Wings”, (Camp Founder) holds an M.A. in Special Education and has way over 30 years of teaching and administrative experience.

Nancy Reuter “Spirit” has worked with Timbertop since 1992 and is a Special Education teacher in Mosinee, WI.

Pete Matthai "Timber" has been with Timbertop since 1991. He has been the Camp Director Since 1994. He has a BS degree from UWSP in Natural Resources - Youth Programming & Camp Management.

A Donation to Timbertop grows the “Climbing Higher” Scholarship Fund and supports ANNUAL Expenses:

$3,500 – Camper Scholarship Fund – The true cost of camp is unfortunately expensive, so we’re always looking for ways to reduce it for families in need.  Scholarships for campers are the best way we can handle that.
$1,750 – Insurance and Administration Fees – Insurance and administrative costs are critical to operate Timbertop Camp, Inc. This will ensure we meet State/Federal guidelines, non-profit regulations and safety protocols thus providing a safe experience of a lifetime for all our campers.
$900 – Arts & Crafts, Reading, and General Program Supplies – Having adequate and appropriate craft, sports, games, healthy snacks and first aid supplies is vital for us to have progressive programming.
Extra Money Raised – Any additional money raised beyond our goal will go towards expanding existing programming, adding additional programming, and growing the Climb Higher Camper Scholarship Fund.
