save the vanier cats

 We are a family living in the South of Ottawa, that started in Vanier and moved where we are fortunate enough to have an amazing government protected land surrounded home..we chose to keep the name we worked so hard to build a reputation on. Over the last 9 years, we have housed countless abused, abandoned, lost and just plain stray cats in our family home setting. We have multiple long term special needs rehabilitation rescues in foster care that require ongoing medications, medical support, and specific rehabilitation. Many never leave our care as we are their last chapter in a life that took everything from them. We believe they should experience joy, love, safety, trust, and to never suffer fear, starvation, terror, dehydration, extreme hot or cold weather, or especially any agony in their last moments of life. We want to show them the light in dark ess before they must leave this world. We can look back on these years and know with support of other compassionate people, we have changed the lives of over 1000 cats. We are independent, non profit, and on our own. We have proudly named what most Sanctuaries tirelessly stand for:. THE 4 R's. 

R1: Rescue.

R2: Rehabilitate.

R3: Redomesticate. 

        and finally,

R4: Rehome. 

We have been successful with all 4 R's for cats, kittens, and kateens..

(our name for teenage felines..not quite cats, not quite kittens!)

They need medical care such as vaccinations, medication, x-rays, surgery, blood, parasite treatment, and especially sterilization to help prevent more unwanted cats. Many come to us in such shape that we are unable to share their pictures on social media.

WE ARE IN DESPERATE NEED FOR YOUR HELP!

 Our funding is only out of pocket and from donations. We recieve no government kickback, tax break, subsidy, grants or funding. No pet stores partnered with, no cat food conglomerate coupons, donations, or discounts. And when I say WE, I mean Myself, my Husband, Fosters, and the Cats. I'm hoping you will become one of the WE. Many hands make light work! We try hard, and sacrifice more than some say we should, but we are on a never-ending quest to find the resources to help provide for the companions that we all are responsible for. I cannot see euthanasia as being an option. It is NOT mercy if it is only for human convenience!

We are not big, we are only able to take care of a few at a time in our long term special needs rehabilitation Sanctuary, and must provide for the many in our foster program. Like usual we are always at our limit..however once one is rehomed, we have space then for another to take its place, which many wait for. And so it goes. Our rescues are long term, special needs, and are kept until they are ready to be rehomed, or for most, til their end days. But they come from such places that this is heaven, sanctuary, a home they should have been allowed to experience from day one.

Our turn-over is not quick.. it can take years to redomesticate a severely abused and traumatized creature..it depends on the needs of the cat. But we are proud to say that even though we are unable to operate a massive rescue, and take in many cats at once, we are able to take in the discarded ones, the ones that are given up on. The ones that have no one else to help. Beyond that, we try to use our resources to help other rescues, rehome, foster, fundraise, and find placements.

So here we are, begging to depend on the kindness of strangers and the goodwill of the kindhearted to help find a way to provide better, regular meals, basic health care, and lots of love..which we throw in for free! Every little bit will help. Even coupons for cat food can make all the difference. Our family works hard and we are proud people. What we don't use we pass on, and network with other rescue efforts wherever possible.

" they are 'just cats, theyll survive'"..they are animals that feel pain and cold and hunger and fear just like we do, but are at OUR mercy. I can no longer pretend they are not there or that they are ok when they are not. For those of you who can help..please help! It only takes a minute to change a lot!
