Simply put: we lost our space, we need a new one.
The Metro Micro Gallery is a small space with a big mission. Founded on a “pay it forward” philosophy, the gallery gives local, upstart artists and curators the opportunity to exhibit their work and manage an exhibit with the agreement that they pass the opportunity on to someone else in the future. Our exhibits are free to the public and our glass walls allow pedestrians to experience art from afar. We are an experiment. We test what human beings can produce when we nurture a stronger appreciation for creative practitioners in our community through a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative environment.
But, we’ve lost our space.
That’s where you come in!
The HOA of our building has asked the Metro Micro Gallery to vacate, allowing the space to be used for residential purposes. This was an unexpected blow to our program and one we find ourselves unable to cope with alone. So, we are trying to find a new space and raise $12,000 toward purchasing it.
The arts encourage us to come together. Art helps us to listen deeply, exposing us to new ideas and pushing us to be better human beings. The Metro Micro Gallery seeks to magnify this binding power of art – cultivating supportive relationships among artists, viewers, and the community. Help us continue this experiment. Barbara Januszkiewicz is the founder and sponsor of the Metro Micro Gallery. An award-winning DC area artist, filmmaker, and art activist, she has exhibited at the Corcoran Museum of Art and the Hirshhorn Museum, and has been featured in The Washington Post on numerous occasions.
