This little store is in crisis due to the unexpected death of Melissa Peterson. Melissa left behind her husband her 5 year old child Elizabeth in 15 year old son Logan. Her brother Jason has stepped up to try to take on the family business. With pandemic beginning at the same time of her illness the last two years have left everyone in dire straights. This little shoe repair shop has been in business since 1946 and has contributed so much to the people in the community.
For decades this family has worked with doctors and people creating solutions to a basic function that we take for granted sometimes, walking. They have worked for local police, fire departments, waste removal, schools, and several other institutions providing service unfound elsewhere.
The owners of the property Jim and Jean Davis ( proprietors of Davis Dental for decades) have been leasing this property the family for over 30 years and themselves are like family. With her illness and pandemic the bills just weren't getting paid because she couldn't work. It has been two and a half years of back rent, long running utility bills, their supplier, and a few more bills just piled high.
Melissa's parents still have the business in their name she never transferred it over. Her parents, Jay and Cherese, had to adopt the children but now face losing not only their daughter but everything they have own while raising two children. Melissa's brother, Jason, has taken on this challenge, has the skill sets, the business acumen, the spirit, and the work ethics that this community needs to recover this business but he can't do it unless we get him out of this hole. The owners of the property, the suppliers, and others have extended credit beyond their means during the time that Melissa was sick. She passed away at the shop and her death was a shock.
Please donate to this cause helping the shop is not just helping some business that's in troubled water. This is about revitalizing and fortifying a service that helps hundreds and thousands of people throughout the years and will continue to do so. This is about helping the Peterson family not lose everything they have while raising their deceased child's children.
This is for the Davis family who have given so much to this community and family but surely cannot sustain the financial blow this will cause. This is for the people whose lives this shop has had a positive effect on and those in the future to come, this is about keeping the town of Davis as just that, a town, and not a damn strip mall. Please take the time to look at the video and I'm sure you'll be moved such as we are to try to help the shop which in turn will help so many more people along the way for several more years to come thank you very much for your support.
