Save the Farm!

Tax deductible
[español abajo]
A sustainable farm remains on a piece of land surrounded by houses and condominiums.

Urban farmers practice composting, mulching, beekeeping, crop rotation, grey water recycling, free range chickens, and the harvesting of renewable fuels.   Excessive weeds are taken care of by a team of two goats, Precious and Patches.

Native plants communities are encouraged, especially along the southern end of the property. Butterflies, hawks, coyotes, scrub jays, hummingbirds, ducks and other wildlife can often be seen here.

For over 20 years, the property has been free of pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, petrochemical fertilizers, and GMOs.

Hummingbird Farm has also been an important space for seasonal gatherings and community programs. For example, in partnership with Naturalist For You, participants have made tortillas with heirloom corn and wood ash produced on the property. Participants have also foraged and eaten edible plants.

Unfortunately, this sustainable way of life as well as this piece of land are currently threatened. The family that owns the property wants to sell it to a “developer” who plans to grade most of the land in order to “increase” its value. We need at least $2 million to acquire this land.

You can help by contributing a tax-deductible donation to be held by Naturalist For You. In the event that the Farm is destroyed, the funds raised will go towards continuing their educational and ecological work.

Usted puede ayudar si contribuye una donación desgravable a Naturalist For You.
