Help Save Smartie

Tax deductible
Saturday afternoon started out as a typical day until we got a call from Petsmart in Hoffman Estates.  A kitten was in a carrier, left in a shopping cart and abandoned.  The kitten was in very rough shape, covered with a tar-like substance, suffering from a massive upper respiratory infection and appeared to be blind in both eyes.  One of our volunteers rushed the kitten – now named Smartie – to the ER.  She received fluids, antibiotics, medications, etc.  The vet thinks she may have walked or fallen onto wet asphalt or driveway sealant.  Her fur had been cut and we think she may have been stuck in the asphalt and it was the only way to release her. At this point, we do not know what has caused the loss of vision.

What we do know is that Smartie is exceptionally sweet (she was purring so loud the vet hard trouble hearing her heart beat), she follows her foster mom voice, she’s a great eater and does a silly dance when she’s happy. What we also know is that her medical costs will be high. She has a long road ahead of her and her treatment has only begun; however, with help from animal lovers and advocates we know she has a chance! This is where we need your help.  Any donation – large or small – is greatly appreciated.
