UPDATE: We have revised our goal to $10,000 due to our successful applications for the SBA EIDL and PPP. Thank ou so so much for helping us weather a scary month. Your monetary donations and your love and kind words have helped us so much through this time!

On Monday, March 16, Sky Candy taught its last in-person classes for the foreseeable future.  Due to rising fears surround the coronavirus pandemic and guidelines from the CDC at the time, we decided that the only responsible option as a large studio was to close our doors to do our part to slow the rate of infection in our community and ease the burden on our medical system. At the time of our closure, we believed we would only need to be closed for two weeks and we promised our staff full wages for time to ensure they could weather this economic storm with us.

Since then, new restrictions placed at a county and state-wide level in Texas have added to the uncertainty of when we will be able to safely reopen the studio. At present, that day may be May 1st, but with new news coming every day, it is certainly not a guarantee that we will actually be able to re-open on that date.

Since Monday, we have called dozens of creditors, banks, and our landlord seeking reprieve from payments until we can return to the studio.  While we have had good news on many of these fronts, we have also been told some payments need to continue and at a time when we have almost no income coming in, any payments will be crippling.

Over the weekend, we completed our application for SBA disaster loan assistance and we lobbied for small businesses to be included in the federal stimulus package. While we are hopeful that federal assistance will come through, that is also uncertain and the timeline of when we would receive those funds, if we do at all, is unknown at this time.

For now, we have done everything we can to ensure we can survive the huge economic blow to our small business, but we need more help.

This campaign has a goal of $30,000, which represents one full month of expenses for our company minus employee wages. This is just what we need to pay our rent, insurance, loan repayments, utility bills, security system, software fees, and licensing fees.  Even with payment deferrals and temporary reprieve from payments from our creditors and the promises of Small Business Administration loans, we will still need time to recover and we are asking our community to help us have a month of runway for when we get back on our feet and into the sky.

We are starting up integrated online classes on March 30th to generate some income and support our 35 member team.  We are doing everything we can to ensure our staff - teachers, front desk team, and managers alike - have at least some income throughout April.

We know that tens of thousands of other small businesses and millions of Americans are facing these same hardships in these challenging times and our hearts go out to everyone who is in this struggle with us.

We deeply appreciate for your support of Sky Candy - now and always. Thank you for helping us ensure that Sky Candy survives and thrives in the aftermath of this global pandemic.
