Save Serenity Yoga Studio, South Hadley MA

My name is Michele Lyman and I am the owner and founder of Serenity Yoga Studio in South Hadley, MA. I am reaching out to ask for your help, which is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do in my life. I am more comfortable giving help than asking for it, but it looks like Serenity Yoga will continue operating at a loss for the foreseeable future due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I need your support to keep the business open. #smallbusinessrelief.

When Serenity closed its physical doors on March 15, I thought we would be back open within a couple weeks. In Massachusetts, yoga studios are allowed to reopen in phase 3, which is no earlier than June 29 and could be longer. And, it is likely that until we have a vaccine, the studio will not be able to operate at full capacity for the safety of our community. Class sizes will be smaller and less frequent, and cleaning efforts will increase. While many of you may not be comfortable coming back in person right away, I want to be here for you when you’re ready.

The Serenity Community means the world to me and I am committed to creating a safe space for us to share experiences, support one another and find strength in each other, especially during this difficult time. Within two days of closing, we moved our classes to a virtual platform to keep our community together and welcome anyone else who needs support.

Unfortunately, even during the closure, Serenity has had to cover the studio’s usual fixed expenses (i.e., administrative payroll, utilities, rent, virtual platform support, internet fees, etc.). At the same time, the studio’s revenues have declined by 40%. Although the Paycheck Protection Program did provide some relief and got us through the first few months of closure, I expect that the next six months or more, Serenity will be operating at a loss each month. Funds from this campaign will make up this difference. If we raise more than we end up needing, I will use the money to offer scholarships to those who can't afford to practice but need yoga support in their life.

We are already starting to see some local businesses close for good. Please consider donating whatever you can, no matter how small, to help keep Serenity’s doors open.  #smallbusinessrelief.

I realize that many other small businesses and families are struggling financially right now. If you’re not able to make a monetary donation, here are some equally important ways you can support the studio:

- Share this campaign, telling your personal story at Serenity
- Leave us a review
- Send us words of love and encouragement

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.  I am truly grateful for you in this time of need.
