Save Popcorn, rescue cat with 2 broken legs

Donation protected

Meet Popcorn. She's a sweet little flame point kitty who was hit by a car on the streets of Palmdale. A Good Samaritan brought her to the vet, who did x-rays and determined that Popcorn has a broken leg AND a dislocated hip. The vet told Gloria, the wonderful person who brought Popcorn in, that she would need surgery and that it would cost $4000. Gloria was not able to afford that, so she reached out for help.

Gloria contacted me when I posted about going to Bakersfield on the weekend and asked if there were cats who needed transport. At first I told her that we were a small rescue and wouldn't be able to help. But when no one else was able to step up, we talked about it and decided that we were going to make it work.

I drove to Palmdale and transported Popcorn back to North Hollywood. On 1/4, she was seen at Pet Cure Veterinary Center Reseda, our rescue's vet. Office Manager and lead tech, Rose, immediately took a huge interest in helping us help Popcorn, like she always does whenever we have a cat in need.

On 1/4, Pet Cure re-did the x-rays for additional views while Popcorn was under light sedation and send them to their partner Orthopedic Surgeon for their opinion. They agreed that bilateral reconstructive surgery was required. The original quote for the surgery was very high.

Rose spoke to her boss and asked for options so that Popcorn could get the best possible care at the lowest price, since she's a rescue kitty. Amazingly, the price was lowered to $2800. That's an amount that we can most certainly raise for this sweet baby girl.

During the 1/4 visit, Popcorn was given neurological testing and determined that she *does* have full feeling and range of motion in both her legs! There was a fear that Popcorn would be paralyzed.

But we need to raise this money soon, so that Popcorn doesn't heal too much before she has her corrective surgery. And besides, right now Popcorn does not feel good at all. She is on crate rest and pain management, and I am keeping her crate next to my bed at night so I can be on call to help her if she needs anything.

If we are able to raise more money than the $2800, it will be spent on further care for Popcorn, or put into the care of other cats in need. We are a donation based Rescue and are only able to save as many cats as we can afford to.

This is our biggest fundraising project to date, but I know that we can do it!

If you would like to donate directly to Pet Cure, please call [phone redacted] and ask to speak to Rose, then tell her you would like to donate for Popcorn. She can process your donation over the phone and add it directly to her account.

Kristen and I feel so lucky to be called to help animals in need and to be able to partner with a vet that we truly love and trust in saving lives. We already love Popcorn so much, and can't wait to share the story of her recovery with you.

Follow our instagram at tinytigersrescuela for daily updates on Popcorn's story.

We want to be fully transparent with our fundraising and spending in Popcorn's case. We received $130 in donations from a fundraiser Gloria started before we took Popcorn into our rescue. We also received a $150 donation from the brand Kittees, and several direct donations from individuals. We spent $245 on Popcorn's vet appointment on 1/4, and $75 on transportation and supplies for her. Our running balance towards Popcorn's surgery less these expenses is now $165. We have so far received no donations directly to the vet. I will update this as other donations are received.

Kristen and I are working on some fun ways to raise funds! If you would like to donate items, art, or talents to fundraisers, please reach out.

With so much love,
Alexis
