Help Pavlo Iatsenko to fight #leukemia

INTRODUCTION

My name is Pavlo and I'm blood cancer survivor.  I live in the city of Kamyas'ke, Ukraine. In April 2018 me and my lovely wife Elena had our first boy born. We were so happy to become parents of small Luca. We were living a happy family life together until July 2018 when I started to feel bad.
I mean really really bad like never before. I wanted to sleep all the time, it was difficult to wake up in the morning and I felt general weakness for the reasons unknown for me. My head was sweating like hell in the night. Even riding my favourite bicycle was hard. So, it obvious that something was wrong with me. After passing all necessary tests and bone marrow puncture after a while I had received the result on my email address on September 4th, 2018: B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia 'common' type.  Since that time my life has become a constant fight against leukemia.

Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is a type of cancer of the blood and bone marrow — the spongy tissue inside bones where blood cells are made. The word "acute" in acute lymphocytic leukemia comes from the fact that the disease progresses rapidly and creates immature blood cells, rather than mature ones.

TREATMENT IN 2018

Receiving such news meant that all the necessary actions had to be taken ASAP. So I went to a hematology dpt. at hospital No.4 in Dnipro on September 2018 and I have been here since that time. We started with chemiotherapy and the result was good. After the first month of chemio the remission was reached. But I had problem with liver due to high ALT/AST that didn't let me to continue my further stages of chemiotherapy. In the end of 2018 problems became bigger - Hepatitis С was detected in blood. Probably due to multiple blood transfusions that had been carried out within those months. Hepatitis was another obstacle to continue with chemio, So I had to go to another hospital in order to make ALT/AST numbers to go down to that level where I can continue with chemiotherapy. The result was reached and I came back to hematology dpt.

TREATMENT IN 2019

We have passed 50% of protocol in May 2019 ...but Hepatitis C became very aggressive and was killing my liver apart from the chemicals. So we had to stop again. This time Hepatitis C was in acute form (due to very high ALT/AST) and had to be treated immediately. So, I started a 3-month course with Sofosbuvir/Hepatosvir pills (as explained by my doctor - the best that you can find now) and I have passed 2/3 of it by now. Due to the treatment of Hepatitis C the break was too long since the last chemio.

CURRENT SITUATION

When I came back to the hospital we did analysis of bone marrow and the result was absolutely unexpected - 60% of blasts. I couldn't believe it because I was feeling very good. We repeated the test the following day but the result was the same. It's called a relapse in oncohematology when bad cells or blasts come back. Just try to imagine what I was feeling... Almost 11 months of time spent and the worst result.

If a relapse happens the only way for further treatment and actually the best solution is allo-BMT (allogeneic bone marrow transplantation) which firstly can't be carried out in Ukraine and secondly EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE. We have contacted 3 clinics in Istanbul (Anadolu, Medical Park and Medipol) and two clinics in Israel (one of them is SHIBA). Preliminary invoices of Turkish hospitals start from around 165 000 USD.

Medipol suggested the full package at 165K USD including the following:
- Consultation of the specialists;
- Control check-up of the patient before BMT;
- HLA matching of of the patient;
- Searching of the donor in Turkish or International data base of bone marrow. Control HLA matching of of the donor. Organization of biomaterial' sampling and its transportation to the hospital;
- Pre-BMT chemiotherapy and bone marrow transplantation;
- 17 packages of Defibrotide (preventive dose);
- Costs for accommodation and meals for one accompanying person;
- Total length of treatment is 130 days (60 days in-patient hospital, 70 days  on an ambulatory basis

HELP US TO FIGHT LEUKEMIA AND SAVE FAMILY

It was at that point, when we realized that we needed help from our community.  165K USD is enormous price for any average family in Eastern Europe. Our family doesn't have such a huge amount of money.

We truly believe that even a small donation made with an open heart to save father and family for a small Luca (he deserves to have a father) that you can see in the picture below will become a big contribution towards a happy end.  Please, join us in this fight.

Sincerely Yours.
