Save Our Fall Sports

Donation protected
As many of you know, Coventry has cut all state approved fall sports for the 2020 season. Students, parents and the community members have been tirelessly working to try to persuade the school committee and school administration to fund fall sports with no resolution thus far. Our deadline with RIIL has been extended to 9/25. There is an emergency school committee meeting on 9/24 where another vote will take place to decide on fall sports. This is the final vote!
As everyone knows, our Coventry students have suffered losses over the past 6 months due to the pandemic with losing their in person schooling, sports and activities. These losses have taken a toll on their physical, mental and emotional well being. They deserve to be participating in all the events that high school has to offer. Our seniors have looked forward to this year since they were freshmen. They have had dreams of playing the sport that the love representing Coventry and many with hopes of earning an athletic scholarship.
As part of efforts to restore state approved fall sports for Coventry High School, several Coventry parents have been in contact with certain school committe members and school administration. If we as students, parents and the community show we are making an effort in good faith to raise some of the $42,000 needed for fall sports we will be in a position to present the raised funds at the school committee meeting on 9/24 with hopes to gain their support to meet us for the total funding of fall sports.  To ensure that the funds go to the intended recipient, we will be making a check out to Coventry Public Schools and will send it with a letter of restriction  stating that the raised funds are to be solely used for the funding of approved sports.  The money will be transferred to Gina Dove who will get a bank check and deliver it to Coventry Public Schools along with the letter of restriction.  This has been approved by school administration.  The raised funds will be used to fund the sports that have been approved by our Governor, but not budgeted by the town.  Donations will be used for coaches, entrance fees, transportation, school fees and dues.
If anyone would like to make a private donation you can contact Jennifer Marszalek at [email redacted] or Gina Dove at [email redacted] and they will give you the information on where to donate.
Our raised funds daily tally of Go Fund Me account and private donations will be announced nightly on Facebook on the pages Coventry Biggest Town in the Smallest State, Let Them Play and Parents of Coventry.
We welcome any support from local businesses (we can come to you). No amount is too small! Our kids need your help!
We would like to extend a huge thank you to School Committee District 1 Representative Lucas Murray for giving us our first donation today (through private check) of $2400 his yearly school committee salary. Our kids thank you Luke!
