Help Save Onyx & Atlas’s Life

Our mix Onyx and boxer Atlas were taken by the city of Aurora. Last Friday, they managed to unlock the dog door from inside our home and get into our backyard. Before mid-November we allowed our dogs to go in and out of their dog door freely. However, one day they got picked up my animal control because they somehow got out of our fence. At the time animal control said that although Onyx showed show signs of what they consider to be a restricted breed, all we had to do was take precautions to ensure they didn’t get out again. At that time, they gave us a false sense of security - we were even more confident at that point that Onyx didn’t fit in the BSL regulations in the city. Fast forward to last Friday, the dogs got out of the locked dog door, through the fence again and trotted around several yards. They came across a neighbors yard which had another dog in it. That dog had been territorial of his space in the past, as is to be expected. Nevertheless, the dogs got in a scuffle and the neighbors dog tragically passed away. Both of our dogs are being held for 10 days for a rabies quarantine. Typically, both dogs would be given back after that so we could love and care for them while awaiting the resolution of our court case. However, now with Onyx’s breed coming into question we find ourselves up against a massive fight to get him back. We are moving out of Aurora, facing a criminal court case, possibly paying restitution, and have to pay all legal and boarding fees to save the life of Onyx. This was a freak accident. We are absolutely heartsick for the loss of our neighbors dog and now have to give everything we have to save our babies. We are asking for any bit you can donate. Your compassion is invaluable.
