John had a career as a ER nurse helping and being of service to people in need and who have been in life-threatening medical situations and
now we find that we are having to ask for help, because John was adopted from Germany we do not have all the family history so we are having to look for someone who has an altruistic nature who is willing to donate 2 lobes of their liver so that John and I can continue with our life together with our dog Brody.
John was diagnosed with a genetic disorder called alpha 1 antitrypsin disorder 1 year after we were married in 2016. Due to Johns' having been adopted from Germany as a young boy this genetic disorder was not caught and eventually caused cirrhosis of the liver.
John is currently on the liver transplant list at UCSF Liver Transplant Program in San Francisco.
All medical care and workups for possible liver donation are covered through John's insurance.
He qualifies for a live liver donation/transplant.

John currently has a liver stent but the disease is progressing more quickly than we thought, he is currently in a hospice/comfort care setting while awaiting a partial liver donation.
The money being raised is for care and ancillary medical costs, day to day bills, that happen due to the surgery.
Live Liver donors are expected to recover fully in approximately 8 weeks with full regrowth of the donors liver happening during that time.
In some states, receiving a state income tax deduction for lost wages is possible
Assistance to donors such as lodging, meals, travel & non medical expenses may be available through the National Living Donor Assistance Center.

Due to the quick progression of the liver disease the need for our asking is urgent the longer we wait the more damage it can and will do to other organs until it become systemic .
