House of Corn Mexican Cuisine opened their doors for business in August of 2020 right in the middle of the Pandemic

Founded by Armando Guerrero and Family, immigrants from Morelos Mexico.

Armando graduated from BYU Idaho in April of 2020 and moved to SLC to start his business.

House of corn did great during the 2nd semester of the 1st year, the sales during May, June, July & August of 2021 were amazing, having the restaurant busy every day and employing 8 people total.

On August 18 of 2021 there was a severe rain storm that flooded the restaurant roof, which made it collapse and flooded and damaged the inside of the building. Because of this, the restaurant closed the doors for 2 weeks to restore the inside, with this, the damages and lost of business amounted to over $40K.

When House of Corn Mexican Cuisine Insurance adjusters came to assess the damages, they determined that the building management had neglected proper maintenance; there was a clog in the rain drainage that caused the flooding. When the building management got the notification about it, they refused to do an insurance claim to cover the damages. Then, in June 2022, the Charter School and Movies 9, which were in the same shopping mall as House of Corn, closed their doors at the same time, slowing down traffic and costumers into House of Corn location.

Business never picked up to its previous levels, making the business struggle.

Regardless Armando and family have been resilient and as of November of 2022 business is still open but struggling to stay afloat.

They applied for a business loan for the amount of 40k that they desperately need to pay business taxes. After 6 weeks of submitting paperwork, the Loan was denied due to the short business life and Armandos Investors Visa status.
