SAVE ECHO HALL
In 2017, a preservation group was organized in Augusta to save “Echo Hall” which was just days away from demolition. The boarding house was constructed circa 1830 and served as a dormitory for students of Augusta College. This Methodist college began in 1824 and awarded its first degree in 1829. Some accounts say it was the first Methodist College in the world.
The group is known as Augusta College Echo Hall Association. The group is raising funds to buy and restore the property for use as a museum to tell the story of our historic town and to provide space for community events and perhaps other organizations, including art or other classes for Augusta Independent School.
The goal of the association is to first stabilize
and secure the building, then begin the process of restoration. A down payment on the building has been made and we must now secure funding for the remainder of the purchase.
Won't you please help? After all, if we don't preserve what was left as a legacy for us, why should we expect our children to do the same?
