Save Grant's Only Leg

Grant Glister joined the RCMP when he was 22 years old and served at K-Division for 4 1/2 years. He then accepted a position in the county of Parkland, working his way to Sergeant or Special Constable, where he remained for 27 years until his retirement. He then went to work as a Peace Officer in Alberta Beach for 2 years and Lac St. Anne County for 4 years.
Grant moved onto a private safety contractor position for Suncor in 2015 when he found out he had an aneurysm in his right leg.
One night, Grant woke up with a great deal of pain in his right knee. He felt a baseball sized lump, and called the ambulance to come pick him up as he could not drive. Little did Grant know that would be the last time he walked on his right leg. He was flown to Edmonton where after a week in hospital, it was decided to remove Gran't right leg below the knee, then above the knee. He was in the hospital for a month and had four surgeries, followed by 5 months of intense physiotherapy.
The amount of pain, trauma and life changing discomfort this has caused Grant and the Glister family is unsurmountable. He has been left struggling to survive with a modified lifestyle, but happy to be alive nonetheless.
He is a very strong person and continues to be, however is very limited to what he can actually do on his own or what he would have normally done. He requires current assistance during the winter with all the ice and snow in every form of transporting himself. He had to relearn to drive with his left foot. He is unable to walk or stand for long periods of time.
Grant was informed in early January of 2018 that he now has another aneurysm behind his left knee now. Medical professionals are reluctant to do anything with it. Grant and his wife were advised that a surgery to save his leg one remaining would come with a 70% chance of the artery still becoming or remaining blocked within two years, and they would have to amputate it anyways.
This surgery would cost $150,000 in the United States. Mr. Glister was informed that the surgery would be too costly, and that an amputation would be more economically, considering the high chance they would have to go forward with the amputation anyways.
Having both of his legs amputated would sentence Mr. Glister to a lifetime of being in a wheelchair and would cause extreme tension and an overwhelming amount of challenges for Mr. Glister and his family. They will have to sell their home and change many other aspects of living-decreasing their living standards.
I am reaching out to ask for your support in helping save this man's independence. He has provided so much positivity to his surrounding areas and community throughout his entire life. He was a dedicated officer in representing the department and it's goals and objectives. He was a true professional when dealing with the public and could always be counted on to assist with difficult situations or help when help was needed.
