A Little about Donna!
Our mom is the best mom in the entire world. We might be a little biased, but it’s the truth. She was a single mom for a while until she met our amazing stepdad, Steve. She was a special education teacher for 17 years and spent 15 more years working as a Lutheran school teacher and principal both in the USA and Canada. Now, she is a team leader at a software company and teaching new employees. Our mother truly has always had the heart of a teacher.
She is our biggest cheerleader and has been there for us through the good and the bad. It’s time that we return the favor and cheer her on during this diagnosis and treatment!
A Little about the Diagnosis!
On the luckiest day of the year, Friday the 13th, our mom was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma stage 1, grade 3, and triple negative breast cancer. Basically, she has aggressive, stage 1, breast cancer.
Luckily, mom’s cancer was caught early due to (in her words) being a “rule follower” and getting her breasts felt up once a year. The plan is for her to get a lumpectomy on November 6. Before that, she will be getting the genetic testing for the BRCA gene. If that is positive, she will have to get a double mastectomy.
A Little about the Plan!
A little while back our dad job was outsourced so he had to find another job. By God’s grace, dad was able to find a job. However, our mom has to move to her employer’s insurance. It just so happens that the initial chemo won’t be covered due to the deductible situation. Essentially she will have to double pay on her deductible due to when the surgery and chemo hits.
This is where YOU come in! We are looking to raise $10,000 to help out our mom pay for the double deductible and any unexpected medical bills that come up. Please help us, help our mom out. Whether she’s been your teacher, co-worker or friend, she’s going to need all of our help now. And she has done everything for us and now it’s time for us to step up, too! We are hoping to have reached our goal by DECEMBER 31st, 2017!!
