Save Carlton Primary School’s Pool

As many of you will know, the children of Carlton Primary School have - for over 20 years - been lucky enough to have their swimming lessons in a pool within the school grounds.

It has provided generations of local children with their first experience of swimming with almost daily lessons for each year group during the second half of the summer term and it has been opened after school too, providing hours of fun splashing around with school mates. It was also opened during the early part of the summer holidays, enabling children and their families and friends to benefit from having this fantastic resource in the village. School sessions are led by qualified teachers and supported out of school hours by a group of trained parent volunteers.

Having this resource locally has many benefits. Firstly, it enables the school to start children swimming much earlier – even in Reception – than would be possible otherwise. Secondly, it enables the school to provide increased frequency of lessons and enable the children to progress much more quickly and thirdly, it is an amazing resource that provides so much happiness and fun for the children.

So far, so good. However, the pool, changing rooms and surrounds, are all now showing signs of their age and need immediate attention if the pool is to open this summer. And of course COVID has held back any funding opportunities in the past two years. The cost of the maintenance is above and beyond the funds at our current disposal and that’s why the school’s PTFA (Parents, Teachers and Friends Association) is launching a campaign to Save our School Pool.
