Save Bronx's Eyes

My name is Dawn and I am a Trauma ICU nurse in Phoenix, as well as the founder of a non-profit org "Inspire 2 Heal Foundation" where we travel all over the world, as medical volunteers to provide needed medical care and surgeries to people who normally would go without. Since we treat and see many children in our travels I decided to get a puppy and service him as a therapy dog so he could travel with us and put smiles on our little patients faces. I found a puppy in NY, a 2 month old Cane Corso (Italian Mastiff), who I named Bronx. Myself and another nurse flew to pick him up and bring him home. Over the next 60 days I feared Bronx had trouble seeing. We noticed him running into walls and being very frightened if the lighting in the room was poor. After taking Bronx to the Vet, who referred us to an animal Ophthalmologist, my fears were confirmed. Bronx has a very rare congenital defect that has allowed a thick white bed of blood vessels to remain in place (normally disappears during development) completely covering his retina in both eyes. There is a laser surgeon specialist in Chicago that we were put in contact with that has the skill and laser equipment to perform Bronx's very delicate surgery to remove those vascular beds. This surgery would give Bronx full vision, as testing has proven that his retina's and lenses are fully functional and intact. I cannot imagine Bronx never having sight because I couldn't pay. We are hoping to raise enough money to get Bronx to Chicago for his life changing surgery.
