For years, high school teens have looked forward to attending their prom and celebrating afterward with their classmates. Think back to the night of your prom… Did you make good decisions? Was it organized? Was it safe? Was it fun?
We, as the Barnstable Community, love our children and want to see that this special event will be memorable and safe. Unfortunately, this event came to light after a tragic fatal accident twenty years ago. We do not want one more family to experience the loss that our community has felt since that day.
It’s a misconception that “Celebration” is organized and funded by the Barnstable High School; many thanks do go to Barnstable High School for the use of the field house and to the front office and facilities staff. Celebration is a community funded event. An event of this size, 250+ teens, is an expensive undertaking and we are dangerously below budget and at risk of cancelling Celebration altogether.
In the past, dozens of dedicated people have volunteered their time and talents to make Celebration successful. They’ve spent countless hours fundraising, setting up events, decorating, serving food, chaperoning, and cleaning up. For the 2017-2018 school year, Celebration is truly at risk of cancellation due to minimal funds and a lack of new community volunteers.
It really does take a village to raise a child and we hope that you will donate to assist us in reaching our goal and providing a safe, fun after prom celebration.
