Hi, There is so much bad in this world so I am wanting to do some good to help some really good people that are in a very bad situations. Our very good friends John and Stephanie Miller's 13-year-old daughter has been so very sick. She has been in and out of UVA since Halloween. What started as your normal kidney infection transformed into the Flu then pneumonia.
All of these conditions we feel as normal sickness but for Savannah it meant hard days ahead. They found that her bone marrow wasn't working any longer. She was diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia meaning her bone marrow can no longer produce the cells to make her blood clot, red blood cells, and cells that protect her from infections. As we know, our air is full of infections.
She now requires daily blood and/or platelet transfusions. This young lady has so many complications stacked against her. She has been such a trooper. Her mom and dad say no matter what pops up or is thrown at her, she still has a smile on her face. She is currently being treated for colon and lung infections, another example where her body can't fight the infection.
In the next few weeks, she will be transported to Children's Hospital in Philadelphia for further treatment and eventually an unrelated donor bone marrow transplant. There is a way you can help with finding a donor for her since her only full sibling isn't a match. If you would like to see if maybe you're a match, it is a simple process. Anyone between the age of 18 to 40 is eligible!
This has been a very stressful time for the family and they still have a long road ahead. Our goal for this family is to help them concentrate on their sweet daughter and her care, not worry about travel expenses, living expenses and medical bills. I can't imagine being in their shoes, this is why I would like to help them as much as possible. Anything would help! Let's help them get through this with as little stress as we can!
