Sarmistha Sen Memorial

Sarmistha Sen was born on January 2nd, 1977, in Sindri, India. She grew up in Sindri and later moved to Bangalore, India for higher studies and work. Sarmistha got married and moved to Plano, TX in 2004. She studied at UT Dallas and University of Birmingham, Alabama and worked on cancer research for most of her career. 

Sarmistha lived a free and fearless life inspiring many with her infectious energy and carefree smile. Sarmistha was an avid runner, gardener and a great cook. She practiced healthy mindful living. She was a trained singer of Indian classical music.

Sarmistha was an early riser and she liked to jog around the Chisolm trail every morning. On the morning of Saturday, Aug 1st, 2020, she went for her regular jogging and  never came back home. Her body was found less than two hours later near the creek along the Chisolm trail. She was brutally killed by a stranger for no apparent reason.

Following the death of Sarmistha Sen, a fundraising effort resulted in $50,000 donation. With additional donation from family and UT Southwestern, The Sarmistha Sen Chair in Radiation Oncology Clinical Research was established in memory of Sarmistha Sen to support the clinical research activities that she was so passionate about and to which she dedicated her career.

As part of this memorial walk, we are raising funds to donate to donate to this foundation as well other charities.
