Sara’s Illness Expenses

Donation protected
Sara is a normally healthy 27 year old girl who the week of Valentine’s Day came down with a cold.  During the week she had what we all would assume to be either a virus, a  low grade fever with cold symptoms.  On 2/16/19  her family brought her to Urgent Care to be seen where she was then sent to the ER due to low oxygen level.  Within a short time she was transported to Crouse Hospital in Syracuse via ambulance with what appeared to be bacterial pneumonia.  During the night she was changed from regular oxygen to a CPAP machine then Sunday morning was tubed for a ventilator.  Within a short amount of time even the ventilator did not provide her with enough oxygen.  A cat scan showed both of her lungs were collapsed and full of disease.  Unless the quick decision was made to put her on echmo life support she would have died.  She has now been over a week and she continues to fight for her life.  She is on 100 percent echmo, 60 percent ventilator as well as dialysis for her kidney.  Chest x-rays showed signs of healing then her one lung had a set back again yesterday, she is still very sick.  She has had numerous blood transfusions.  At the moment her recovery is hour to hour and day by day.  Once her lungs have recovered it may take up to a week for her to wake up then start the road to recovery.  They have explained she will need physical therapy,  may have memory loss, and along road to recovery.  Sara’s mother passed away last July from a almost 2 year battle with cancer.  David’s father also passed away in 2017 after three months in the hospital from complications from cdiff.   At the same time Sara’s mother was battling cancer.  This family has spent 2 years in and out of hospitals and thousands of dollars of medical expenses.  They have nearly exhausted there savings and there family owned business has also suffered as a result of so much time away.  This family could really use financial help for gas, parking fees, hotels, food, copays, medical expenses and the other expenses related to her recovery.  Her hospital stay could possibly be at least another month in ICU then recovery and possible hospital stay therapy.  There are still many unknowns as to what she may need to relearn.  Any donations would greatly be appreciated!
