Rugby Event for Changing Lives Malawi

This fundraiser is to raise funds for a Rugby Event in Northern Malawi taking place in September and to help pay for donated kit to be sent. The beneficiaries will be hundreds of orphans & other vulnerable children.

Rugby has only recently been introduced in Northern Malawi by Jack Mphande, Development Officer for Malawi Rugby Union. Jack spent two weeks with vulnerable children from several primary schools, as well as the older orphans we help to support. The children and young people loved it! He is returning in September for another two weeks. The first week will be spent coaching teachers and children from one cluster of schools with a tournament on the last day. The same will happen during the second week with a different cluster of schools. The middle weekend will be spent with the older orphans.

There are no big charities feeding children in schools in the rural far north of Malawi. All of the children we help to support are suffering from malnutrition. Some don't eat every day. We help fund a feeding programme for 500+ orphans once a week where they receive a substantial, nutritious meal. Unfortunately, we cannot afford to feed them more often. Some children are walking up to 20km for this one proper meal of the week. We need to feed each of the children taking part in the rugby tournament. We cannot expect them to have the energy to play if they haven't eaten that day.

We have been very fortunate to make some great links with various clubs and schools who have supported us and supplied preloved rugby kit, boots and balls for us to send to Malawi. Thanks to Merchiston Castle School, Edinburgh, Balfron High School, Strathendrick RFC, Grangemouth RFC, Annan RFC, Stirling County RFC and the SRU to name a few! We send this kit via a container organised by The Bananabox Trust in Dundee. To cover the cost of the container we are charged £17.50 per box/bag. Can you help us please?

Changing Lives Malawi is a charity in central Scotland, run by volunteers who are passionate about helping hundreds of orphans, and their community to have a brighter future. We support a variety of projects, the end goal being sustainability and self-sufficiency. 500+ orphans are fed once a week, some walking 20km. There are no charities feeding children in schools so all are hungry. We support a nursery for 75 preschoolers and phase 1 of Bright Futures Secondary School has opened and we are fundraising for two more classrooms to add to the two that were built last year. 100% of donations go to projects. The fundraiser to donate to the school is https://gofund.me/ece5753a and to read all the latest news please visit our website www.changinglivesmalawi.com Thank you.

Children in the nursery received new clothes and flipflops.
This is the first time they have seen a toy trainset.
