Mike Bennett is a 2000 graduate of West Morris Central High School and a long-time boys lacrosse coach. Although currently a resident of Roxbury, Mike has been a part of the Long Valley community his entire life, devoting his free time to both the youth and high school lacrosse programs. His wife is Sarah and together they have an incredible five year old son named Austin.
On July 9th, 2014, Sarah was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma, also known as bile duct cancer. Over the course of the next six months, Sarah courageously endured the surgery and chemotherapy her doctors prescribed. By the following summer, Sarah seemed to have won her battle. However, on February 8th, 2016, a check-up revealed that the cancer had returned and spread to both the lungs and liver. Since that time, Sarah has suffered through repeated rounds of chemotherapy, radiation, and multiple surgeries. Despite these efforts, the cancer remained and Sarah continued to fight.
Over the course of the past five years, the Bennetts have waged a costly battle against cancer. Because of her treatments and the cancer itself, Sarah has frequently been unable to work, often for long periods of time. Because of the rarity of her type of cancer, Sarah has had to seek out specialists, participate in clinical trials, and oftentimes travel great distances. Most recently, she had been making weekly trips to Boston and back, adding travel, food and lodging costs to what are already burdensome medical bills.
Mike, Sarah and Austin are a part of our Long Valley community and have always been enthusiastic supporters of West Morris Central athletics. If you have ever been to Saturday morning freshman boys lacrosse game then you’ve seen Austin running up and down the sidelines wearing his wolfpack helmet and cheering on the team.
We would like to ask for your generous support in helping Sarah's cause by contributing funds which will be used to pay down medical costs.
