As many of you will have heard, there have been devastating fires near Athens, in Greece. Sadly, one of our Elasticians and his family got caught in this terrible disaster. Alex Sapranidis lost his home in the fire, but thankfully he and his family are safe. This is in large part due to the fact that Alex volunteers at the fire brigade, so he had all the right reflexes and knew how to deal with the situation promptly as the fire spread incredibly fast. Materially they have lost everything and emotionally this is incredibly tough too. The family are staying in a small temporary accommodation for now and they will eventually need to find somewhere permanent and rebuild their home.
For anyone who knows Alex, you will know that he is the most friendly, down-to-earth person you can meet. Right now, he is shell-shocked and grateful that his family is OK. Alex would never ask for help directly, nor would he indicate that he needs any support, but this is a tragic situation, and by raising funds to rebuild his home and for basic needs, we can at least remove some of the financial worries from him and his family, allowing to focus on next steps.
All donations will be sent directly to Alex and his family to help rebuild their lives.
