Santa Cruz County’s homeless population is made up of over 2,000 individuals and like the general population, many are pet owners.  Just like you and me, our neighbors without a home find comfort, protection, and companionship in their pets.  Improving pet health helps to maximize the human-animal bond which is essential for the many pet owners living on the streets.

On November 16th, we piloted a new program to provide basic veterinary care for pets of the homeless at the biannual Project Homeless Connect event.  Our 4 volunteers (3 DVMs and 1 vet tech) provided exams, vaccinations, parasite control, microchips, and nail trims to over 20 pets.  During this event, we also provide pet care education and coordination of spay/neuter services for other pet owners visiting our clinic. The very first wellness clinic event was an overall success and demonstrated a huge need for such services in our community.

We are seeking donations of any amount to continue this new community program in Santa Cruz County.
Your donation would give us the opportunity to go beyond preventive care and provide basic medicine for common issues like ear infections, itchy skin, and gastrointestinal upset.

Any support in this effort will surely make a difference for the most vulnerable members of our community and their companions in life.
