Sandi's Passionate Journey

Hello Friends, Family, and many others,

"What you are to be, you are now becoming."

Carl Rogers, psychotherapist, 1902-1987
Father of Humanistic psychology.

As many of you know, last year I began the journey to becoming a psychotherapist. It's been quite the undertaking at the age of fifty-seven, going back to school and being in an extremely intense program. I have a passion for this work and have been told that I have a gift. The journey to becoming a therapist is long and expensive. We go to school for two years, followed by a two-year traineeship and two-year internship, without pay, gathering our hours and experience towards licensure. Our journey is much like a doctor's and just as intense.

I have been able to cover tuition and fees for my program at Antioch University, Los Angeles through unsubsidized student loans that will cover my school expenses through graduation. What isn't covered are my living expenses. I attempted to work and go to school full-time last year and quickly discovered that I can't as it comes at great cost to my health and well-being. I have been barely getting by the last few months and have been in the process of slashing my monthly expenses. I applied for a GradPlus loan this spring and was turned down due to my medical debt from six-years of fighting late stage neurological Lyme disease, from which I have been in remission from for over two years. I am unable to receive one without a co-signer.

I need your help. There, I said it with great fear and shame in my heart about asking for help. I need your help covering my living expenses as I apply for, and wait on scholarships and grants to help me cover my living expenses. Things will get even more intense in a few short weeks as I begin my traineeship at Open Paths Counseling Center in Culver City, and begin seeing clients.

This is TEMPORARY help as I wait for the scholarship and grant money to arrive. I would like help paying for my utilities (gas, electric, cell), keeping the house stocked with groceries, keeping my ten-year-old car running and registered, keeping my insurance paid, Asta's shots are due, etc. In helping me temporarily, you would be helping in keeping my stress down as I continue to intensely focus on this path to becoming a therapist.

I'll keep you up to date on my journey with occasional blogs.

Thank you!

With love and gratitude,

Sandi
