Daughter takes Dads Art on the Road

During the election, with the help my first gofundme campaign and the many generous friends and family who contributed to it, I was able to frame and mount a profound and moving exhibition "Against the Grain, Timeless Impressions" that showcased 50 years of hard-hitting political cartoons by my father, Bill Sanders.  During it's run, the magnitude of his work touched hundreds of lives. "The exhibit is most thought-provoking. I urge people to see it before it leaves" — Kip Hudson, Monterey (See Article from the Monterey County Weekly)

"Even if only for one fleeting moment, [Sanders] wants to shock you out of your political complacency and admit that 'the emperor has no clothes'"
- Jo McReynolds, Exclusively Yours

Many of the people who saw this work ~ especially after the election ~ felt it was too important to put into storage. "Where will it go next?" was a common question.

I had hoped the show could travel to places where it would make sense and could impact as many people as possible. AYZHA Fine Arts Gallery in downtown Milwaukee  is the place!! We are now in collaboration and hot pursuit to get these cartoons from Monterey to Milwaukee in under two weeks! The opening reception is slated to take place  on the Inauguration weekend.

-- New article written by onmilwaukee  that speaks to my Dad's influence in Milwaukee politics and journalism.--

This exhibition will bring the Milwaukee Journal's legandary cartoonist's work back into view for the first time in over 25 years. My father is now 86 years old and  weilds his pen with a mastery and intense candor that has become edgier than ever!

Your immediate contributions, in any amount, will go toward the purchase of packing materials, handling and priority mail shipping of at least 7 boxes. My work is cut out for me in the next 7 days, and I thank you so much for your generous support and good will.

My deep hope is that by giving my fathers life's work a larger audience,  people will be inspired to not only think about the state of our democracy, but will find the courage to take action to help protect it.

The exhibition will feature a collection of his recent work that examines President-Elect Donald Trump as well as these historic cartoons that demonstrate moments in American history dealing with issues of civil rights, racism, gun control and womens rights.
