We've had water in our basement before, but never like this.
Three separate areas of the basement suddenly began collecting large amounts of water Tuesday night (3/27). We immediately began cleanup, soaking up the water, trying to prevent any property damage. We worked on clearing our schedule while cleaning up water until 4am, then simply had to sleep. Wednesday we spent the whole day clearing the house of anything damaged (trash) versus easily destroyed but salvageable (storage). We pulled water out of the house constantly, all day.
Thursday is now even wetter than before.
We are ripping out carpet to replace it ourselves using the most highly recommended option. We are moving all our own furniture, with the help of many friends, and we thank God for all of them. We are treating the area with bleach to prevent any mold, and we already have a special filtration on the furnace to help. We are saving every penny we can.
However, the cinder blocks on our house are filled with water, and it's gonna keep coming. We just replaced the full HVAC system and cleaned out the vents - much needed but very expensive. And now we need a proper drainage system including sump pump to keep this from happening again. We will have to have the concrete around the outside of our basement completely removed and refinished, THEN refinish the walls and floors ourselves. And the first quote on the part we have to hire out came in at over $7,000, plus at least $500 needed for carpet.
We need your help. Even if it's just $5, we are up to our ears in debt, and we really need to try to do this without breaking the bank. If it's a trial for you, please don't donate. But if you are able to help contribute to rescuing us, just this once, we are going to ask.
This will be a major investment, plus a month of hard work, with a lot of work time missed. We have already lost furniture to be replaced, and we haven't yet checked the walls to see if we have to replace all the panels.
