Help Samuel and his family

Hi, my name is Hayli and I'm setting up this page on behalf of Samuel and his family. I was introduced to Samuel at the Whittier School in Everett, where he is currently a student. Samuel is a sweet little boy that was recently diagnosed with giant congenital melanocytic nevus on his scalp, which has the possibility of developing into malignant melanoma. There is history of cancer in his family. His treatment plan consists of 3 surgeries, which involve implanting a temporary expander under his skin, expanding it over time by filling it with salt water, then cutting it out and harvesting the newly expanded skin.  Samuel already had his first surgery on February 14th and is slowly recovering. This is a very difficult and painful process, especially for a 10 year old. Samuel is eager to go back to school, and expressed concern about not having hats to cover his surgery scars when he goes back to school.

Unfortunately, Samuel's mom, Tatiaia, explained to me that they have recently moved to the U.S. and they have been struggling emotionally and financially  since the diagnosis. Tatiaia, has three other children, Lucas, 17, Ana, 12 and Luna, who is 4. She has no family here to help her take care of Samuel, since the insurance has not approved an in home nurse.  She had to stop working as an Uber driver in order to take care of him so she currently has no income and is late on her rent. Lucas has missed over 20 days of school to help his mother bringing the other children to school and also caring for them. 

Samuel's insurance does not cover 100% of the procedures, so there are copays, parking expenses, meals out of the hospital etc.

Oi, meu nome é Hayli e criei esta página em nome do Samuel e sua família. Conheci o Samuel na Whittier School, em Everett, onde atualmente é estudante. Samuel é um garoto alegre e muito doce, que recentemente foi diagnosticado com nevo melanocítico congênito gigante em seu couro cabeludo, que tem a possibilidade de se desenvolver em melanoma maligno. Há uma história de câncer em sua família. Seu plano de tratamento consiste em 3 cirurgias, que envolvem a implantação de um expansor temporário sob sua pele, expandindo-a ao longo do tempo, enchendo-a com água salgada, depois cortando e colhendo a pele recém-expandida. Samuel já teve sua primeira cirurgia no dia 14 de fevereiro e está se recuperando lentamente. Este é um processo muito difícil e doloroso, especialmente para um menino de 10 anos de idade. Samuel está ansioso para voltar para a escola e expressou sua preocupação em não ter chapéus para cobrir suas cicatrizes cirúrgicas quando ele volta para a escola.

Infelizmente, a mãe de Samuel, Tatiaia, me explicou que eles se mudaram recentemente para os EUA e estão lutando emocional e financeiramente desde o diagnóstico. Tatiaia, tem outras três crianças, Lucas, 17, Ana, 12 e Luna, que tem 4. Ela não tem família aqui para ajudá-la a cuidar de Samuel, já que o seguro não aprovou uma enfermeira em casa. Ela teve que parar de trabalhar como um motorista de Uber para cuidar dele, então ela atualmente não tem renda e está atrasada em seu aluguel. Lucas perdeu mais de 20 dias de escola para ajudar sua mãe a levar as outras crianças para a escola e também cuidar delas.

O seguro de Samuel não cobre 100% dos procedimentos, então há co-pagamentos, despesas de estacionamento, refeições fora do hospital etc.
