Sammy Crawford's Recovery Fund

My friend and our colleague Sammy Crawford needs our help. Sammy has worked at Quicks Hole Tavern in Woods Hole for many years as a prep cook and dishwasher. He also works at a restaurant called Bleu in Mashpee. He lives in Falmouth, MA and commutes to work every day on the bus. Most of his closest family are living in Jamaica, so Sammy counts on his community of friends here on Cape Cod.
In mid July (while he was already home recuperating from a work accident), Sammy experienced a crushing headache that was identified at Falmouth Hospital as a stroke. He was rushed to Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston where he was diagnosed with a rare condition called an AVM ("arteriovenous malformation"). You can read more about this condition here. Sammy has since had several surgeries to successfully correct this malformation. Dr. Du told Sammy that he is in better shape than most faced with this rare disease because of his years of healthy eating and fitness. Sammy is now recuperating at a local rehabilitation facility. He is working with a team of physical therapists, and he is hopeful to be back on his feet in a few months.
In the meantime, Sammy needs our help with his rent and bills. Once he is out of the rehabilitation hospital, he will also need to catch up on medical bills. Sammy has health insurance, but there will still be some bills that are not covered. Sammy also supports his six year old daughter, which is difficult to do when he is in the hospital and unable to work.
