Sammy & Elsa's Vet Bill

Donation protected

Anyone that knows me, knows that my animals are my children.

Elsa is a two year old golden retriever we adopted from a family who no longer could care for her. We did not know everything about her when we got her. We quickly found out she was a chewer. I am a very patient person and was committed to helping her overcome this, but I did not expect this.

One week ago, Elsa was spayed. She stayed overnight and came home with me the next morning. They gave me medicine to control her pain.

Today, I went out to an appointment for work. When I got home everyone was normal. Sammy wanted to play ball, Elsa wanted to snuggle. I continued working when I got home and nothing was wrong. When Evan got home he called to me to let me know that he found a chewed up blue pill bottle. None of my pill bottles were blue. I checked where I had put her pills last and they were gone.  They were placed on the table with my other medicine. My theory is that because they are made to taste good to dogs, she must’ve thought they were treats.

Panic set in and I immediately called the emergency vet. They transferred me to the Poison Center for animals. (Never knew that was a thing until now) They made me pay $60 before they would tell me if it was toxic, I knew it was, but the vet wouldn’t accept her without this report from them. It was at this time I realized that Elsa might not have been the only one who ate them.

We took Sammy and Elsa to the Middle Georgia Emergency Vet around 7. They let me know that they required full payment up front before they would start treatment...$1600. My pets are my children, of course I’d pay, whatever it takes. But this is only the beginning. They have to be constantly monitored over the next 72 hours to make sure there is no kidney damage.

Then I thought about the money. Who doesn’t when it’s that much? My life is just starting. We have a brand new house that we haven’t even paid our first mortgage payment for yet. I don’t want to have to choose between my house and my children.

I’m at such a loss for words that this has happened. I know this is a hard time for everyone right now but any help is appreciated. I love my babies...to even ask for help is embarrassing. Thank you for reading.
