Sammie's Final Year PA Tuition

Donation protected
This funding page is dedicated to Samuel ("Sammie") Boateng, a young man I met in Accra, Ghana, West Africa in July 2013 with Water Access Now, a non-profit in Kirkland, WA that funds clean water projects in Ghana. We met while visiting Lila's Child Care Foundation, a non-profit school where Sammie teaches.

Sammie was recently accepted to the physician assistantship undergraduate program at Central University College in Accra. Less than ten percent of Ghanaians are able to attend and complete college due to physical and financial barriers. The monetary goal above reflects Sammie's full expenses for his first year, without which he cannot enroll this Fall. Below is an autobiography Sammie made especially for this page.

My name is Samuel Boateng. I am 20 years old and I live in Accra, Ghana with my mum and two brothers, Felix and Bright. My mum has brought us up by herself since I was two years old. She didn't give up on us; she saw us through both our basic level of education and senior high school.

My dream is to become a physician assistant. This has been my dream since I was a kid, when the dream seemed impossible based on our situation. This has always been on my heart because I want to serve my community, to help bridge the gap between the weak and the strong and the sick and the healthy. I also want to help decrease the pressure on our physicians here in Ghana. The doctor to patient ratio in Ghana is 1 to 38,000 per year, which is very bad. To achieve this dream I have worked immensely towards it, by attaining good grades in high school to be accepted in the physician assistantship at Central University College.

What is left now to make this dream a reality is the money to pay for my tuition, hostel, books, and lab fees. This has been a problem ever since my mum, the breadwinner of the family, lost her job. Please help me with any little amount to achieve this dream of saving lives in the near future. Thank you.

I believe in Sammie's vision to care for his people of Ghana. In my brief visit to his country, I saw firsthand the lack of medical personnel and resources, especially in rural villages. Acceptance to a physician assistant program in Ghana is a huge accomplishment in itself, but Sammie's ultimate dream cannot be fulfilled without the funds to attend college. This is a daunting feat on his own, as he earns less than $50 per month from teaching, and is providing for his family.

Please consider helping to finance Sammie's first year of college, or beyond. Donations will be sent from my personal bank account for pickup at a Moneygram or Western Union agent near Sammie's home, after conversion to Ghana currency (Cedi). Thank you for taking the time to view this page. I hope you also see Sammie's potential as a future health care professional and will contribute any amount to help unlock his potential.
