Samantha Schaibly Breast Cancer

Hi, my name is Andrea Guthrie and I’m the Owner of The Mirage Salon + Barbershop in Alton. I have created this fundraiser on behalf of one of my employees and close friends, Samantha Schaibly. She has recently received the worst news anyone could ever hear, Breast Cancer. Sam is only 31 years old and a mother of 2 boys, ages 1 and 8, along with 3 bonus kids all under age 9.

Sam’s story is heartbreaking due to the fact that she lost her own mother at age 9 to the same disease that is now plaguing her. Since she was 25 years old she has been watched very closely by a team of amazing team of doctors at the Cancer center at Barnes Jewish Hospital.

In 2018 they discovered her first Phyllode Tumor in her left breast, it was removed and found to be benign.

Then in 2021 another mass was found in her right breast, after removing it they found it was also benign.

Recently October of 2023 they found another mass in the left breast, after removal the testing came back and confirmed everyone’s worst fears that the cancer is getting more aggressive.

Her team of doctors have decided that the best form of treatment for her is to have a double Mastectomy, which will lower her risk of another tumor by 95%.

Sam is an Esthetician in my salon, and self employed which grossly limits her ability to be off work and recover from her surgery. She will have no way to pay her bills and take care of her kids while she recovers. The recovery time for the surgery is 6-8 weeks, and for a self employed individual, that isn’t something she can financially afford.

She shouldn’t have to choose between living and paying her bills. Her boys don’t deserve to grow up without their mother like she had to.

I am asking for donations to help her and her family get through this difficult time while simultaneously improving her quality of life by making this surgery possible.

Anything donation helps. I can’t think of a better or more deserving person than Samantha.
