We tragically lost our beloved Sam Holysz this past weekend. He was struck by a falling limb as he cut down a tree while preparing the family cottage for winter. He leaves behind his wife and the love of his life Meredith Holysz and five wonderful children Tanner Callahan (19), Nathaniel Holysz (19), Luke Holysz (15), Christopher Holysz (14), and Kiera Callahan (12). He is also survived by his parents Joe and Christine Holysz and Rick and Anne Cahow and siblings and nephews.
Everyone who knew Sam was touched by his zest for life, contagious smile, and the way he genuinely cared for others around him. Sam made a profound impact on the lives of so many. He was a devoted husband and father for his family, a consummate fisherman and lifelong outdoorsman, and an extremely skilled professional for his colleagues and friends of 10 years at Gull Lake Country Club. Whether you found Sam working, fishing, relaxing on the boat, or enjoying one of his many adventures, you could always be certain that he would welcome you enthusiastically with open arms and a firm handshake.
Sam was talented and gifted in so many ways, and he selflessly shared his time and talents to lend a hand to anyone who needed it. He had a passion for sharing his wealth of knowledge with others both personally and professionally. Sam was a leader in his industry and enjoyed teaching at national golf course industry shows. In his free time, Sam shared his incredible passion for fishing and the outdoors with anyone who wanted to learn.
Although Sam never asked for anything in return for his overwhelming generosity, we can all honor his legacy of selfless giving by supporting his family during this time. We have set up two goals for this campaign. The first $100,000 donated to this fund will go directly to Sam's wife and children as we stand with them during this challenging time. The second goal of $25,000 will go to establish a scholarship fund to continue Sam's legacy of teaching and mentoring young minds in his industry and outdoors.
