Sal A Pente Fino - Cabo Verde Plastic Campaign

Every day you can watch the plastic being washed ashore along the East coast of Sal, Cabo Verde. So many fishing nets, too. Every day, empty plastic bottles, containers, bags, straws are picked up by the wind and spread everywhere in Santa Maria, over the whole island, along the beaches but the worst: into the sea!

While there is not much we can do here as individuals to stop the ocean from delivering plastic to our doorsteps, we are fully capable of tackling the plastic we see every day! And we are 100% willing to raise awareness among residents of this beautiful island by involving them in our actions.

We from Sal A Pente Fino organise annual beach clean ups to clean the entire island of Sal. In January 2021, we organised and launched the first edition of "Sal A Pente Fino": With 733 helpers in 40 groups, we collected trash from North to South of the island: We collected 39 tons of plastic! The second edition took place on September 18th 2021 with 553 participants in 39 zones we collected 46 tons of garbage!

In order to keep these intense logistical efforts up, we need financial aids: Transportation to very far away places, thousands of bin bags, community events and more cannot be done from nothing.
