Safety for Mustafa - Ayuda para Mustafa
[ENGLISH] I’m launching this campaign on behalf of my dear friend, Mustafa, an Afghan refugee who finds himself in an impossible situation in his search for asylum and safety.
[CASTELLANO] Quiero lanzar esta campaña en nombre de mi querido amigo Mustafá, un refugiado afgano que se encuentra en una situación difícil dentro de su búsqueda de asilo y seguridad.
I met Mustafa in the summer of 2019 when I went to Lesvos to volunteer in the refugee camps there. When we met, he’d been in Europe for 2 weeks. He was upbeat, full of light and hope. Over a year later and still stuck on Lesvos and with no support, his situation has become desperate. He tries to stay positive and strong but I know he’s struggling. A few weeks ago he asked me for financial help to continue his journey through Europe in search of safety.
Conocí a Mustafá en el verano de 2019 durante mi voluntariado en los campamentos de refugiados de Lesvos. Cuando nos conocimos él solo llevaba dos semanas en Europa. Su estado de ánimo era optimista, lleno de luz y de esperanza. Algo más de un año después y todavía atrapado en Lesvos sin ninguna ayuda, su situación se ha vuelto desesperada. Mustafá intenta mantenerse positivo y fuerte, pero sé que está luchando por mantenerse así. Hace unas pocas semanas me pidió ayuda económica para poder continuar su viaje por Europa en su búsqueda de seguridad.
So, from my place of privilege and liberty, I’ve decided to launch a fundraising campaign. Anything that you can donate would be greatly received. I’ll leave you with Mustafa’s story, told in his own words, with a little help from me!

"My name’s Mustafa, I’m 22 and from Afghanistan. In 2018 I left my country because of the danger I was facing, leaving behind my family, friends, and an unfinished Computer Science degree. I needed to live somewhere safer and I wanted a peaceful life. Unfortunately, I was the only member of the family who was able to leave, and I’m alone in Europe.
Me llamo Mustafá, tengo 22 años y soy de Afganistán. En 2018 dejé mi país por los peligros a los que me enfrentaba, dejando atrás a mi familia, a mis amigos y una licenciatura en Informática a medio cursar. Necesitaba vivir en un lugar más seguro y quería una vida pacífica. Desgraciadamente fuí el único miembro de la familia que pudo salir del país y ahora estoy solo en Europa.
It took over a year and a half to get to Greece from Afghanistan. It was a journey full of fear and hardship: I had to walk for hours without food and water; I experienced extreme heat during the day and extreme cold at night; I was routinely beaten by smugglers. I arrived on Lesvos by night in a small boat crammed full of people. The sea was so choppy and I was terrified.
Tardé más de año y medio en llegar a Grecia desde Afganistán. Fue un viaje lleno de miedo y penalidades: tuve que caminar durante horas sin agua ni comida, sufrí calor intenso durante el día y frío extremo durante la noche. Fui repetidamente golpeado por contrabandistas. Llegué a Lesvos de noche en una pequeña embarcación atestada de gente. El mar estaba picado y yo me moría de miedo.
When I arrived in Greece I was full of hope - I was finally in Europe where everything would be better!
Cuando llegué a Grecia estaba lleno de esperanza, ¡finalmente estaba en Europa donde todo sería mejor!
The reality has been hard to bear. What I’ve experienced since arriving has tested my spirit to breaking point and I turn to you for help and in desperation. I’ve been here on Lesvos island for more than a year, my application for asylum was rejected (single men are given low priority). I’m currently awaiting for my appeal results, but my chances of being granted asylum are slim. Most probably I’ll be forced to continue my trip and my search for asylum through illegal means. I don’t have any other choice. Thank you for helping me to continue my journey. Going back is not an option.
La realidad está siendo difícil de soportar. Lo que he experimentado desde que llegué ha puesto a prueba mi espíritu hasta límites insospechados y me dirijo a ti, desesperado, en busca de ayuda. Llevo en Lesvos más de un año, mi solicitud de asilo ha sido rechazada (los hombres solteros no tienen prioridad). Estoy esperando los resultados de mi recurso pero las posibilidades de que se me conceda asilo son muy bajas. Casi con toda seguridad me veré obligado a continuar mi viaje en busca de asilo por medios ilegales. No tengo otra opción. Gracias por ayudarme a continuar mi viaje. Regresar no es una opción.

Currently, the best option for Mustafa is to seek asylum in Germany, the country that currently has the best conditions for those in his position. It will cost Mustafa roughly 3000€ to travel there overland, and 4-5000€ to travel by plane. My hope his to raise as much money for him as possible, and he needs to leave Greece by the end of November
Actualmente la mejor opción para Mustafá es buscar asilo en Alemania, el país que ahora mismo tiene las mejores condiciones para aquellos en la misma situación que Mustafá. Le costará aproximadamente 3.000€ viajar por tierra hasta allí y entre 4.000 y 5.000€ en avión. Mi esperanza es recaudar todo el dinero posible para él ya que tiene que abandonar Grecia antes de que acabe Noviembre.
Despite everything he’s experienced, what I’ve learnt from Mustafa is that we must always, always CHOOSE LOVE. I’m humbled and honoured that he’s placed his faith in me. Please help me support this generous, bright, wonderful individual.
