Sacred Sites Audio Theater

Donation protected

Hello, I’m Susan Suntree, author of the award winning book, Sacred Sites: The Secret History of Southern California. Just released by University of Nebraska Press in an updated paperback edition, Sacred Sites tells the story of the origins of the Southern California landscape from the points of view of Western science and Indigenous myths and songs.

With your donation, it will soon be unforgettable audio theatre!

The two stories, science and myth, lyrically presented, reflect on one another creating one whole story not just about Southern California, but about the workings of thewww.susansuntree.com  universe and especially our life on earth. It reveals how we are truly all expressions of the same fabric and that everything on earth is intimately interconnected.

In this time of social and climate crises, we need this knowledge more than ever! We need the inspiration of indigenous wisdom that assigns to us intelligent, always busy, powerful human beings, two specific tasks: 1. Renew the world. 2. Maintain the balance. Now, more than ever, we need to commit ourselves to these tasks.

Creating an audio theatre production of Sacred Sites: The Secret History of Southern California has been a dream of mine for a long time. All the world’s great epics and creation myths are recited. This ancient oral tradition is the perfect way to experience the riches and mysteries recounted in Sacred Sites. The stories come alive in the audio theatre production!

I am now ready to go into the studio and record. But to do this we need your help!

My amazing team and I have been working for months rehearsing, casting, composing, consulting with linguists (there are 8 languages in Sacred Sites!). Peter Coyote donated his recording of Gary Snyder’s foreword and Lowell Bean’s introduction.

We are set and, with your donation, we will be recording in August.

Sacred Sites: The Secret History of Southern California opens our eyes to see through the cement and opens our hearts to care for our earthly home.

Please donate! And please share this with your friends! #sacredsites #audiotheatre #susansuntree

Thank you!
Susan

Human beings have lived in Southern California for over fifteen thousand years creating some of the most sophisticated cultures in North America. These cultures, like indigenous cultures throughout California, are known for gardening the landscape, for holding as sacred the intelligence and energy of the natural world, and for their fundamental belief in the human responsibility to keep the world in balance through our actions and our songs.
